Mr. Geiss graduated with a BA in History from Colgate University in 1971. He worked for a time for the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company in Philadelphia before attending Widener Law School's evening division, where he was named to the Law Review and earned his JD degree cum laude in 1977. During law school he clerked for the Media, PA firm of Caine, DiPasqua, Edelson, & Patterson. After being admitted to practice in 1977 he was briefly in general practice in West Chester, PA before becoming staff counsel for the Bureau of Workers' Compensation in Harrisburg. For over 30 years thereafter his practice has been concentrated in Workers' Compensation defense with several firms, including Swartz, Campbell & Detweiler (initially in Philadelphia and eventually as managing attorney in Harrisburg, PA); Dougherty, Munday, & Leventhall (Scranton); Farrell & Fraticelli (Harrisburg); and from 2010 to 2015 with Caldwell & Kearns, Harrisburg (via merger with F&F). He has during his career published for the Pennsylvania Defense Institute and the Self Insurers Association on topics in Workers' Compensation. He has also written materials for and presented in multiple seminars and CLE programs in Workers' Compensation. He has appeared before Workers' Compensation Judges, the Workers' Compensation Appeal Board, and Commonwealth Court for employers and insurers all across the Commonwealth from Pittsburgh, to Altoona, Scranton, Allentown, Harrisburg, and Philadelphia. He is admitted to all Pennsylvania State Courts as well as the Middle District of Pennsylvania Federal bench (1999) and the U.S. Supreme Court (2008).
